When it rains it pours, Kayaks, and life on "the island"- Koh Tao pt 1

The rain started as we boarded our second ferry form Koh Phanghan to Koh Tao. Everybody, 70+ people, were soaked to the bone as we marched 100 meters down the dock with nothing to look forward to but a wet a windy ride up top or a freezing air conditioned cabin below. We were the only kids from Vegas, of course, which was probably why we were the only ones up top, shirts off, and ready to rock!

Our first couple days on Koh Tao were pretty wet, but I have to admit that I loved every minute of it. We all did. It was a classic island dowpour, where all the steets became canals back to the ocean, complete with downed wires and lines of some sort.

There are two villages on Koh Tao, Sairee Village and Mae Haad, we lived in the latter. I would copy and paste a map, but all the right mouse click commands are in Thai. We stayed in a little establishment called Baan Tao. Despite the slippery stairs of death and the 4 inch millipedes, we loved it there!

We kayaked around to the east side of the island to explore and to scout out Ao Leuk Bay. The east side is exposed, so when a little storm kicked up while we were eating lunch in Ao Leuk, it made for an interesting paddle home, especially around the southern cape. We rowed for like an hour and a half straight, needless to say, there's no pictures of that part.

Storms a brewin!

My victory dance after we made it around the southern point.

On our last leg, two Israeli guys challenged us to a little race, first to touch the rock roughly 200 meters away.

We smoked em.

  2. Sweet! I hope you got a little sun at least. "Survivor" bracelets still going strong, I see. Mom and I wear ours all the time.
